How to read the longest-range list
This page answers a narrow question: which available EV publishes the highest WLTP range in our catalog. The current ceiling is 720 km, shared by Lucid Air Grand Touring(MY25-26) and Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+(MY26). Every car in the top 30 is at or above 590 km. Sort is WLTP only. A larger battery usually helps, but efficiency and body shape decide how much of that pack becomes distance.
WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure) is the European lab cycle used on these cards. It is useful because every model is measured the same way. It is not a promise for a 130 km/h autobahn run, a roof box, or a January commute. If two cars sit within 20 km of each other on this list, pick on charge speed, cabin, and price — the sticker gap is smaller than weather.
Shortlist two or three models in the EV comparison tool, then check a stop in the charging simulator. Ownership cost is a separate question; the TCO calculator does not care who won the range table.
Where the sticker number loses
Winter. A U.S. Department of Energy summary reported about 41% BEV range loss in typical conditions at −6 °C, versus about 10% for a petrol car. Independent winter tests spread from the mid-teens to nearly 40% depending on heat-pump hardware and trip length. Read EV range in cold weather before you treat 720 km as a January figure.
Highway speed. Drag rises with the square of speed. A sedan on this list will usually keep more of its WLTP number at a steady 110–120 km/h than a tall SUV with a similar pack. That is why the best EV for long-distance driving is not automatically row 1. For a corridor weekend, use best electric cars for road trips next to this ranking, not instead of it.
Charging. The number on the charger is only its ceiling. A 350 kW peak that collapses after 20% is slower on a real corridor than a 250 kW car that holds the curve to 70%. If the job is fewer minutes stopped, open the fastest-charging ranking next to this one.
If range is not the constraint, the cheapest electric cars and electric SUVs lists are the honest siblings. This page will not pretend a 400 km city EV is a failure.
Longest-range EV questions
- Which EV has the longest range right now?
- In this catalog the longest WLTP range is 720 km, currently a tie between Lucid Air Grand Touring(MY25-26) and Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+(MY26). Rankings move when manufacturers issue a new homologation, so treat the table as the live list rather than a permanent trophy.
- Is WLTP range the same as real highway range?
- No. WLTP is a laboratory cycle run at moderate speed in mild conditions. A steady 120 km/h motorway run, a headwind, or a loaded car will use more energy. Use the WLTP figure to compare models, then plan the trip with a highway buffer.
- How much range does an EV lose in winter?
- Independent tests and a U.S. Department of Energy analysis put typical cold-weather loss in a wide band, often 15–40% and worse on short, freezing trips. Cabin heat and a cold pack matter as much as the sticker range. See the cold-weather guide linked below before you buy on WLTP alone.
- Is the EV with the longest range the best for road trips?
- Not always. Trip time is range plus charging. A car that restores energy quickly between 10% and 80% can beat a longer-range rival that tapers hard at the charger. Compare DC peak, 10–80 behaviour, and body type before you lock the shortlist.
- How is this longest-range list ranked?
- Available models only, sorted by official WLTP range descending. Ties keep the catalog order. Battery size and DC peak are shown for context; they do not change the sort.
