Methods and definitions

Figures are from the Global EV Outlook 2026 (CC BY 4.0). IEA “electric cars” are battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. They are not hybrids without a plug, and they are not China’s NEV category (which can include fuel-cell vehicles).

World sales and public-charger KPIs use IEA report headlines (topped 20 million sales; more than 7 million public points). Stock and the region and country series on this page come from the same outlook’s data product as published by Our World in Data, still IEA-origin. Public points are not charging stations. The outlook is annual, so these numbers lag monthly Europe and US pages.
